A list of Royal Visits including official tours, stopovers and private visits from 1901 to 1950.

 

1901 - The Duke & Duchess of Cornwall & York (later King George V and Queen Mary) - October. Halifax, Amherst.

1906 - Prince Arthur of Connaught - 28 April to 29 April. Halifax. VIsited Royal Artillery Park.

1911 - Princess Patricia of Connaught - Halifax.

1912 - Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught with Princess Luise, Duchess of Connaught  and their daughter Princess Patricia. Prince Arthur installed as Governor General at Quebec City.  Prince Arthur unveils Sir Sanford Fleming Park (Dingle Tower) memorial in Halifax. 01 August to 17 August. Digby, Windsor, Wolfville, Grand Pre, Port Williams, Starr's Point, Canard, Kentville and Middleton.

1913 - Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught with Princess Luise, Duchess of Connaught  and their daughter Princess Patricia left Halifax on the Empress of Britain for Liverpool - March 22.

1913 - Prince Albert (later King George VI), Halifax, May 24th. Prince Albert arrived on the cruiser, Cumberland. He drove through the streets of Halifax with Commander Smith and Captain Hicks, Aide de Campe to Lieutenant Governor McGregor. He attended an "at home" and dance at Government House.

1918 - Prince Arthur of Connaught on way back from Japan, toured across Canada, visiting Halifax on August 24th-25th.  He toured local military hospitals.

1919 - Prince Edward, Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII and Duke of Windsor after his abdication in 1936) - 17 August to 18 August. Arrived on HMS Dragon.

1919 - Prince Edward, Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII and Duke of Windsor returns to Halifax on HMS Renown after visit to the United States of America.

1939 - King George VI & Queen Elizabeth - first visit by a reigning sovereign. 14 June. Pictou, Halifax. 

1940 - Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone and the Earl of Athlone (Prince Alexander of Teck) as Governor General of Canada - September.

1941 - Prince George, Duke of Kent (son of King George V) - September - Debert, Sydney, Halifax and Dartmouth to visit air bases and training centres.

1941 - Prince Philip (later Duke of Edinburgh) as midshipman in Royal Navy visits Halifax on shore leave and escorts Canadian troops to Europe during World War II. 

1944 - Earl of Athlone & HRH Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone - September 24th.

1945 - Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone and the Earl of Athlone (Prince Alexander of Teck) as Governor General of Canada - returning from the United Kingdom on the ship, Queen Elizabeth.
